Businessman offering handYou can do it, we can help!

One of the core functions of Significant Matters is to help individuals and groups pursue their God-given passion to make a difference through charitable activities (as described in Section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code and elsewhere). For some that includes the start-up of a new initiative and/or organization to carry out that passion. For such efforts we offer the Significant Matters Fiscal Sponsorship (SMFS) and two types of Sponsored Initiatives.

SMFS offers services for two different types of Sponsored Initiatives

  1. SMFS – Advance Ruling Initiatives – Initiatives that have organizational structure and have already filed their documents with the state and the IRS and are simply awaiting their advance ruling for 501c3 status with the IRS. This service is helpful for those who have already filed for tax-exempt status and are awaiting their ruling from the IRS. It allows your organization to receive tax-deductible gifts under the Significant Matters charter and our 501c3 tax-exempt status.

  2. SMFS – Operating Initiatives – Initiatives that need ongoing organizational structure and the ability to raise tax-deductible dollars but have not filed any of the paperwork for incorporation or 501c3 status with the IRS. This allows a person/group to explore and even execute on an idea without having to go through the initial expense and effort to start a 501c3, nonprofit organization. The goal is to help individuals pursue legitimate nonprofit ideas, accelerate their progress, provide financial accountability for tax-deductible giving and, if appropriate, help launch the initiative as its own duly recognized 501c3 organization. In lieu of a board of directors each initiative is supported by a project manager (the person with the idea) and a leadership team of their choosing to help develop and execute the goals of the initiative. The project manager along with the leadership team is responsible to raise the necessary funds for the ongoing work of the initiative.

The incubator approach has the advantage of allowing a person to pursue their passion and focus on the execution while they await their 501c3 ruling or as as a way to see if a long-term, permanent commitment to a self-sustaining organization is really what they want.
